Vancouver Symphony Offers Free Performances in City Parks

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is hitting the great outdoors this summer with a new series of free performances in public parks across the metro region. The program, called “Symphony in the City,” includes 12 outdoor concerts from July through September.

Performances will take place in iconic locations such as Queen Elizabeth Park, Trout Lake, and Kitsilano Beach, offering residents and visitors the chance to enjoy Beethoven and Brahms under the open sky.

“We want to dissolve the barriers around classical music,” said Artistic Director Otto Koch. “You don’t need to buy a ticket or wear a suit. Just bring a blanket.”

The repertoire includes symphonic favorites as well as new works by Canadian composers. Each concert also features a pre-show talk and local food vendors.

According to organizers, the goal is both cultural and communal: “We’re not just sharing music,” said Koch. “We’re building a stronger, more connected city.”

All performances are free and suitable for all ages. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as capacity is first-come, first-served.
